As
we grow older, our ability to manage our own money and affairs may well diminish.
Whether this is caused by illness, disability or an accident, we can help.
We help our clients to get their affairs in order and make their wishes known
for the future. This may involve making a Will or helping to choose someone
to take Power of Attorney over our client’s financial affairs, if this
is necessary. This may lighten the burden on your husband, wife, relatives,
or carers, who might otherwise find it difficult to make complicated decisions
on your behalf.
Where there is not enough time to take the necessary steps, or if a person is
already unable to handle his or her financial affairs, it is usually the relatives
of this person who need advice. We advise on the options available, including
an application to the Public Guardianship Office, if necessary, to make arrangements
for managing the person’s financial affairs.
If there is concern that a client may in future be unable to manage his or her
affairs, a Lasting Power of Attorney may avoid complications later on. This
is because the appointed person (the “Attorney”) will have power
to act without having to apply to the Public Guardianship Office, thereby saving
expense.
